What's the difference between normal and free ISP's ?
What do I do now ?

If there is still something you are unsure of, email us and we will be happy to answer any questions you still have.

What do I need to get on the internet ?

A computer and modem is a good start, but you do not need these to have a website.
To have a website and e-mail facility you need two things, a name and a place.

A Name
This is called a domain name and will form the basis of you website and e-mail address.

e.g.

yourcompany.co.uk
yourname@yourcompany.co.uk

So that you don't end up with the same name as someone else, you need to register it. When this runs out, it will be offered back to you first before going back on the market.
To find out if the domain name you are after is available still, click

A Place
Someone, somewhere has to 'host' your website on a computer that can be accessed at high speed by many people 24 hours a day.
Your new 'domain name' will  be placed on this host Internet Service Provider (ISP) which will give you your web space and e-mail facility.
Depending which ISP you choose effects the level of service or help you receive, and the size of web space allocated for you (usually 10Mb, 20Mb or 50Mb).

What if I don't own a computer ?

You don't have to. We can set up the domain name and host for you, then upload your chosen design onto the Web. The only people who really need a computer are the people surfing the web.

Which Internet Service Provider do I use ?

There are many ISP's you can use to host your domain name. We have found JPCi to be a very reliable and cost effective service. You can change ISP's at any time without loosing your domain name as this was registered separately.

It is important to ensure your website is available at all times and is as fast and responsive as possible. The use of a reliable ISP is paramount when choosing where to host your website.

If the ideal domain name you want has gone, there are ISP's you can use where they host your desired name in front of their company name.

e.g.

yourcompany.theircompany.co.uk

This is also seen on the free ISP's that you can join up with.

What's the difference between normal & free ISP's ?

With a free ISP you get :-

Connection to the internet
Allocated web space (usually 10Mb or 20Mb)
Host e-mail address (e.g. name@company.freesite.co.uk)
Pay by the minute help service
Most free ISP's prohibit business use

With an ISP you pay for you get :-

Option for your own domain name (extra £'s)
A more reliable connection to the internet
More allocated web space (Mb)
Custom e-mail address (e.g. name@company.co.uk)
Free help service
Upgrade options if required
